Bobby Jindal Sunday created history when he
became the first person of Indian origin to
become governor of a US state as he carried
more than half the vote to defeat 11 opponents
in southern Louisiana. Jindal, 36-year-old
son of Indian immigrants, had 53% with 625,036
with 92% of votes tallied.

The
Indian diaspora in the US has shown interest
in investing in Assam with proposals ranging
from producing bio-diesel to operating small
aircraft for regional connectivity, says Chief
Minister Tarun Gogoi. New York-based Bravia
Capital Partners Inc., has submitted a proposal
to set up an aviation hub in Assam.

University has launched a leadership programme
for Indian MPs, opening a window to discussions

from the public eye. The inaugural session
of the programme will begin Oct 9. Among the
attendees will be NRI New York attorney Madhu
Goud Yaskhi, who was elected an MP in Andhra
Pradesh in last year’s election.
