Fashion News 2007 -> Liz Hurley weds in a Tarun Tahiliani sari

LIZ HURLEY TO WED IN A TARUN TAHILIANI SARI
By Lopa Patel & the Indo-Asian News Service (22 February 2007)

Arun Nayar and Elizabeth HurleyActress and model Elizabeth Hurley, who is going to marry long time Indian boyfriend Arun Nayar in March 2007, has reportedly decided on a stunning $7,800 pink silk wedding sari by Indian designer Tarun Tahiliani. Preparations are reportedly in full swing at the Devigarh Palace in Rajasthan where the traditional Indian ceremony is likely to be held. The couple are expected to marry in Britain on March 3rd 2007 and then fly to Rajasthan for the Indian ceremony. They will host post-wedding celebrations in Mumbai and Rajasthan. Close friends of Nayar are said to have already flown to Jodhpur to take stock of the arrangements.

Umaid Bhawan PalaceAccording to informed sources, a lavish wedding party will be held at the Umaid Bhawan Palace. The couple has already booked the hotel from March 8th to 10th, hotel sources told IANS. The Umaid Bhawan Palace, completed in the early 1940's, has 98 rooms and is considered one of the most beautiful hotels in Rajasthan. The opulent palace, part of which is still the home of the erstwhile Jodhpur royal family, is set in 26 acres. Hollywood couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt had also stayed here during their recent India visit.

Apart from Umaid Bhavan, around 10 rooms in Hotel Balsamand Palace, five km from here, have been booked for the guests. A second wedding bash is likely to be organised here as well. The Balsamand Palace is a fine specimen of Rajput architecture in red sandstone, surrounded by lush green gardens. It is built on the banks of the 13th Century artificially created Balsamand Lake and has 35 rooms.

A third grand marriage do might be held in the 4th century Nagaur Fort, 137 km north of here. The fort comprises three palaces - Hadi Rani Mahal, Sheesh Mahal and Badal Mahal - that are noted for their beautiful frescoes. "The party will be held in one of the palaces within the fort," a well- informed source said.

In Los Angeles, Hurley, the 41-year-old, who is a mother of a four-year-old-son, is said to be looking forward to a family life but she doesn't want to do the cleaning job, reports www.hollywood.tv. She says: "I'd love to be a housewife. I hate to clean up. If you leave that to me, it would look like the house had been hit by a bomb."

ABOUT TARUN TAHLIANI

Shilpa Shetty models at a Tarun Tahiliani catwalk showHurley's wedding sari could be the "big break" that Indian designer Tarun Tahliani needs to capture the lucrative western market. Already a major designer for Bollywood actresses like Aishwarya Rai and Shilpa Shetty, Tahiliani has also created outfits for Indian film star Aamir Khan (for the Oscar presentation ceremony), the Prince of Bhutan, Isabella Blow, Nita Ambani, Vijay Mallya and actors Kabir Bedi, Saif Ali Khan and Arjun Rampal. Western celebrities like Naomi Campbell and Goldie Hawn have also been known to shop at the Tarun Tahiliani 'Ensemble' stores in Mumbai.

In 1995 Jemima Khan commissioned Tarun Tahiliani to design her wedding outfit for her marriage to cricketer and politician Imran Khan. Ironically Jemima Khan went on to date Hugh Grant after her divorce from Imran. Actor Hugh Grant was formally Elizabeth Hurley's boyfriend.

A Tarun Tahiliani bridal outfit as shown in Milan.Tahiliani started his 'Ensemble' brand in December 1987 in an old warehouse of machine tools in Fort, Bombay. Formerly a machine tools salesman for his family business, Tahiliani graduated with a business degree from the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania. "I sold oil field equipment in the morning, worked in the [ensemble] store when I could and designed clothes on the floor in the evenings!". The intense frustration of the dichotomous lifestyle led him to return to New York to take a crash course in the technique at the Fashion Institute of Technology.

Finally, he set up a studio in New Delhi in 1995. The Tahiliani Design Studio creates couture, diffusion and pret-a-porter collections. Tahiliani's talent has transformed Indian drapes, textiles and techniques into modern, innovative, contemporary styles for the international market. Today, Tahiliani shows his collections in Mumbai, Delhi, Dubai, New York, Moscow, Hong Kong and Milan and runs two Tarun Tahiliani boutiques in Mumbai and Delhi as well the the existing 'Ensemble' outlets.

He undoubtedly leads a vanguard of Indian designers like Manish Malhotra, Rohit Bal, J J Valya, Satya Paul, Manish Arora, Raj Pratap Singh and Ritu Beri who are likely to bring Indian Fashion to the western couture market.
