Fashion News 2007 -> Aki Narula presents 'collision' of styles
NARULA PRESENTS 'COLLISION' OF STYLES
Indo-Asian News Service (25 March 2007)

Aki Narula's electic collection at Wills India Fashion WeekMetallic, metallic and some more metallic. Famed designer Aki Narula, who had a packed hall during his show on the final day of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW), displayed an eclectic collection. The show began with a powerful siren resounding the hall and a handful of hooded models walking the ramp with their torchlights aimed at the audience, making them squint. A lone model wearing a white overall and, of course, the hood then walked out and sans the ramp lights revealed herself to all with her red torch flame.

Aki Narula's electic collection at Wills India Fashion WeekThereon, a whole lot of metallic-coloured dresses with puffed sleeves and big collars made an appearance. Giving full importance to details, patchwork dresses, pleated dresses with gathered sleeves, small pockets and pleats gathered in the form of flower made a big display. Narula didn't play around much with other details like sleeves and necklines. Hence simple necklines like the boat neck, three-quartered pants and three quartered sleeves.

Silver, gold, white, sea green and muted pink were the colours that dominated the collection.

A dramatic end to the show left the audience spellbound. Model Carol Gracias in an ivory dress entered with a dozen bags hanging on her shoulder and a yellow oxygen mask fitted on her head.

Talking about his collection, Narula said: "It's a very do-it-yourself kind of dressing. The collection is called 'Collision' which means a clash of ideas. So you have a dress in chiffon and leather which is not really the usual combination that you might come across."

And what's his inspiration? "Oh I am influenced right from the 30s to the 50s, then from the 60s to 2007!" he laughed.
