ZARIN PATEL
Zarin Patel, Group Finance Director for the BBC, London

After graduating from the London School of Economics in 1982, Zarin trained as a chartered accountant with KPMG, where she gained 15 years experience at a senior level with multi-national corporations across the industrial and commercial sectors.

In 1998 Zarin joined the BBC as Group Financial Controller. During her three years in that role she achieved a transformation of the organisation in Greg Dyke's One BBC Review, which allowed the BBC to redirect substantial new investment into programming from overhead savings. In October 2001, Zarin became the BBC's Head of Revenue Management and was responsible for the collection of television License Fee income across the UK, which totalled £2.9 billion in 2004/05 and license evasion dropped to an all-time low of 5%.

In 2004, Zarin took up the role of Group Finance Director for the BBC and over the past year Zarin has achieved renegotiating the licence fee settlement, transforming BBC finance, driving value creation and transformation and improving performance management and contributing to the BBC's diversity targets.
