SHASHI
GOSSAIN
Shashi Gossain, owner of Pharmaclinix, writer, businesswoman,
London.
Shashi
Gossain's 'future of pharmacy' idea won her the Enterprise Award
for her visionary new approach to the pharmaceutical industry in
the Pharmacy Business Awards held in October of last year. Shashi's
Pharmaclinix is the UK's first 'one stop health and beauty clinic'
that has done away with toiletries and cleaning products, and instead
offers a combination of pharmaceuticals and on-site health and beauty
clinics. The pharmacy was opened in a previously run-down area of
London that Shashi has vigorously campaigned to clean up by removing
graffiti, rubbish and abandoned cars to make the area safer and
more attractive.
As
a cosmetic scientist, Shashi has spent the last five years developing
a range of skincare products under the Pharmaclinix brand that are
specifically designed for Asian skin-types. Bollywood actress Sridevi
has been commissioned as the face of these new products and they
are available through Pharmaclinix's innovative online pharmacy,
which also provides Internet prescriptions.
Shashi
Gossain has written four books on lifestyle and cooking, soon to
be converted into e-books, with her first release already having
sold 10,000 copies. Shashi's writing skills also extend to regular
columns in the magazine 'India Link' and in various charity magazines
relating to health and beauty issues.
In
May 2004, Shashi Gossain became the first Indian woman to open a
specialised Mercedes garage, MercsOnly, in reaction to the high
prices that she was paying Mercedes dealerships to service her car.
With the help of four mechanics that had previously worked for Mercedes,
the cut-price servicing and repairs business now enjoys a turnover
of over £1million.
