Saima Mohsin, TV journalist, London
Saima's
aspiration in life was to become a journalist and after gaining
a BA (Hons) in Political Science with English Literature she went
on to gain a Postgraduate Diploma in Broadcast Journalism. At university
she worked on setting up a new student radio station and during
the summer breaks had an internship with BBC World Service - South
Asia unit. After leaving university Saima's first job was working
for BBC Greater Manchester as a reporter. From here she went on
to Meridian Television as a newsroom journalist and in 2002 moved
to BBC Points West as a reporter and a presenter. It was while working
for this show that she was asked to join BBC's Watchdog programme.
Saima
was the first Asian woman presenter on the BBC consumer primetime
show Watchdog. Here she worked alongside the well-known presenter
Nicky Campbell as a reporter investigating consumer complaints and
tracking down of rogue traders. After the last season of Watchdog
finished in April 2005 Saima decided to go freelance. Since then
she has presented for Sky News and reported for Five News. In August
2005 she hosted the ground breaking debate show for Channel Four
on suicide bombings and British Muslims. Since October 2005 Saima
has been presenting the morning's news programme for ITN and The
World Today, an international news and current affairs programme
for BBC World Service Radio. From April 2006 Saima will be the newest
face to the GMTV team, reporting from around the UK and presenting
news bulletins on Europe's biggest breakfast show.
