Charmaine Jayetilleke MBE, founder and president of the Sri Lanka Christian Association (SLCA), Hayes, Middlesex

Charmaine founded the Sri Lanka Christian Association (SLCA) in 1986, initially for the education and welfare of needy children in Sri Lanka. The SLCA has educated so many children who would otherwise have no access to education. Through their education their outlook for their future is brighter enabling them to change the society they live in for the better.

Over the past 20 years Charmaine has worked tirelessly organising fund raising events for the charity. The charity does not only provide for children in Sri Lanka but it brings together people of all faiths, nationalities, creeds and cultures to raise money for the sick, blind, disabled and destitute. Charmaine goes to visit every organisation that the charity donates too so that she personally knows them all and they know her.
