'The
Z Factor' exhibition, celebrating the contribution
made by Zoroastrians to India and the UK,
was launched at The Women's Library, London
Metropolitan University on 23rd May 2012.
The exhibition, curated by Zerbanoo Gifford,
author, human rights campaigner and founder
of the Asha Centre, was opened by the guest
of honour, Baroness Royall of Blaisdon.

for her "astounding achievements"
in theatre at the Asian Women of Achievement
Awards 2012 held at the Hilton Hotel, Park
Lane, London on Wednesday 16th May 2012. Among
the ten pioneering women honoured was luxury
retailer Sung-Joo Kim.

Communities, US Department of State was recognised
with the Global Empowerment Award 2012 at
the annual Asian Women of Achievement Awards
held at the Hilton Hotel, Park Lane, London
on Wednesday 16th May 2012. Earlier in the
day, Ms Pandith spoke at the Women of the
Future Summit about the Women in Public Service
Project launched in the USA in 2011.

talented and employable young people by running
courses on creating mobile and Facebook applications

Lakshmi
Mittal has once again topped The Sunday Times
Rich List published on 29th April 2012 despite
seeing a 29% decline in his steel-making fortune
estimated to be £12.7 billion. Asian
newcomers onto the Rich List include 34-year
old Rajesh Agrawal (pictured left),
Founder of foreign exchange company Rational
FX who is estimated to be worth £90
million.

Prime Minister David Cameron launched the
Conservative Friends of India (CFIN) group
on 24th April 2012 at the Royal Horticultural
Halls in London to an assembled gathering
of 1,200 British Indian guests. The Prime
Minister, who was introduced by Lord Dolar
Popat Chairman of CFIN, ended his speech by
urging party supporters and guests to vote
for the Conservative candidate Boris Johnson
in the upcoming Mayoral elections on 3rd May
2012.

Bain's
India Philanthropy Report 2012 reveals some
exciting new themes in Indian philanthropy.
The survey of nearly 400 wealthy Indians found
that they contributed more of their income
in 2011 and many of them plan to give even
more in the future. Young philanthropists
(30 and younger) also are giving more and
playing a greater role in shaping the philanthropic
ecosystem.

on Investment: Sewa Day adds £400K to
UK claim economists |
An
independent report produced by economic analysts
Pratik Dattani and Sam Juthani shows that
Sewa Day, a national day which encourages
social action, good deeds and public service,
returned £4.40 of economic and social
benefit for every £1 expended on it
resulting in a £400,000 monetised gross
benefit of to the British economy in 2011.
Sewa Day, which started in 2010, aims to promote
selfless services attracted over 15,000 volunteers
last year.

& Foreign School Society & Educate
Girls promote learning in India |
Up
to 35,000 children living in areas with the
lowest literacy and school enrolment rates
in Rajasthan will be reached through a new
partnership between The British & Foreign
School Society (BFSS), The British Asian Trust
and local charity Educate Girls. 300 schools
and 300 teachers will benefit through programmes
funded by BFSS that will see 2,000 girls returning
to school or being enroled for the first time.

Khan and Oxfam help build schools in Pakistan |
Thanks
to the fundraising efforts of boxer Amir Khan,
five schools have now been built in flood
affected areas in Pakistan. Amir visited Sindh,
Pakistan, in 2010 after the country was hit
by devastating floods that affected up to
20 million people. He went on to hold a fundraising
event in Bolton in February 2011 that raised
£102,139.

London. Sonna sang a special number written
for 'Educate Girls', one of the participating
charities, for whom she raised £18k.

Face', a documentary featuring British/Pakistani
plastic surgeon Mohammad Jawad was awarded
the Oscar for 'Documentary Short Subject'
at the 84th Academy Awards ® on 26th February
2012. Directed by Daniel Junge and Sharmeen
Obaid-Chinoy, the documentary chronicles the
work of of the pioneering plastic surgeon
as he travels to Pakistan to treat survivors
of radically disfiguring acid attacks.

2012 selected as a Queen's Diamond Jubilee
event |
Sewa
Day, to be held on 7th October 2012, has been
selected as a Queen's Diamond Jubilee event
through an initiative called "A Year
of Service". Every month this year, each
of the major faith communities will in turn
host a day of volunteering in communities.
Each day will have a theme, such as visiting
the elderly, feeding the hungry or planting
trees. The Sewa Day theme will be "Helping
the Homeless".

4, yesterday (18th January 2012) explained
how the movie 'Slumdog Millionaire' came to
be made to members of her alma mater Somerville
College's Media Network. The 2008 film which
cost $15 million to make grossed in excess
of $377 million in sales, won 8 Oscars and
made stars of Dev Patel and Frieda Pinto.
