NRIs honoured by Indian Government in New Delhi

Dhiren Katwa being awarded the Bharat Samman by the NRI InstituteColumnist for the 'Asian Voice' newspaper, Dhiren Katwa, has been recognised for his outstanding journalism by the Government of India. Dhiren was the youngest of 20 non-resident Indians (NRIs) who were honoured at a prestigious ceremony in New Delhi earlier this month. Each awardee was presented with the Bharat Samman Award, which recognises individuals of Indian origin living overseas for exemplary work in their respective fields. The annual event, held at the Le Meridien Hotel, New Delhi, was organised by the NRI Institute, a non-profit, apolitical organisation that aims to provide a platform for people of Indian origin, globally, and promotes NRI investments in India.


Among those honoured were Dr Rami Ranger of Sun Mark Ltd, the only UK firm to have received three consecutive Queen’s Awards for Enterprise, .who was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award: Baroness Sandip Verma, who also received the Lifetime Achievement Award; Atul Pathak, MD of APPT Corporation; author and Sikh historian Peter Bance; Navin Piplani, director of Conservation Studies at York University and educationalist Mehmood Khan, an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.

Guests at the awards ceremony included Dr Bal Ram Jakhar, former Speaker of Lok Sabha, Rajeev Shukla, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Dr Bhishma Narain Singh, former Governor of Tamil Nadu and Assam, Governor of Arunachal Pradesh JJ Singh and Joginder Singh, former CBI director. As part of the three-day Bharat Pravasi Divas celebrations, an evening reception was hosted by His Excellency James Bevan, the new British High Commissioner in India, at his residence in Rajaji Marg, New Delhi.
