London to host largest
e-learning conference in 2011
9th - 11th January
2011
London
is to host 'Learning Without Frontiers', the largest
global e-learning conference from 9th-11th January
2011. The brainchild of Graham Brown-Martin, founder
of 'Learning Without Frontiers', the three-day event,
which incorporates the former 'Handheld Learning',
'Games Based Learning' and 'Digital Safety' conferences,
has already attracted 2,000 registered delegates
keen to explore "what's next for technology
in education". The conference has also signed
up keynote speakers including Jimmy Wales, Founder
of Wikipedia; Barack Obama's appointee Karen Cator,
Director of Educational Technology, US Department
of Education and Ed Vaizey MP, UK Minister for Communications,
Culture and the Creative Industries. 'Learning Without
Frontiers' received over 600 proposals when it put
out a call for papers earlier in years and organisers
have also secured iPads for hundreds of registrants.
"Learning
Without Frontiers brings together leading disruptive
thinkers and practitioners from the education,
digital media, creative, technology and entertainment
sectors to explore, share and demonstrate how
new disruptive technologies are driving radical
efficiencies and improvements for learning whilst
offering equality of access.", explained
Mr Brown-Martin "the event is relevant to
anyone working within a formal learning environment,
looking to sell products and services into this
sector, as well as practitioners and technology
enthusiasts. Children are welcome at the conference
and would probably enjoy 'The Sunday Service'
with TV presenter Jason Bradbury the most".
The conference has three
main components:
o 'The Sunday Service' -
Sunday January 9th 2011, 11am - 11pm
Wholly tongue-in-cheek, 'The
Sunday Service' is a more social day with the
highlight being 'Learners Y Factor' with the children's
author and star of TV's 'The Gadget Show', Jason
Bradbury. The emphasis is on apps (mobile applications)
and experiences of using mobile, video games,
social media and other disruptive technologies
for learning.
o The Conference - Mon January
10th & Tue January 11th, 2011, 8.30am - 5.45pm
Monday sees the start of
the 'Learning Without Frontiers' conference with
keynote speeches from Jimmy Wales of Wikipedia
and Ed Vaizey MP, UK Minister for Communications,
Culture and the Creative Industries. Tuesday focuses
heavily on new research strands on the impact
of disruptive technologies, handheld learning
tools and digital safety.
o The LWF Awards -Monday
January 10th 2011, evening
Hosted
by TV presenter Maggie Philbin, The LWF Awards
on Monday evening celebrate international practitioners,
learners and participants who have excelled in
the use of mobile, video games, social media,
