Popat is made a Life Peer in David Cameron's new
Government

Asian
businessman Dolar Popat, Chief Executive of TLC
Group that specialises in healthcare and hospitality,
was recommmend for a Life Peerage by Prime Minister
David Cameron on 28th May 2010. Dolar has been a
member of the Conservative Party for over 30 years,
and held office in several associations within the
Party such as Anglo Asian Conservative Association,
One Nation Forum, and he has recently joined the
British Asian Conservative Link. He has served three
Conservative Prime MinistersEdward Heath,
Margaret Thatcher and John Major. He is also a member
of the Diversity and Leadership in Britain in the
21st Century, a cross party Council, and he is a
regular speaker on behalf of the Conservative Party.
Dolar Popat first came to
London from Uganda in 1971 to study but stayed
after his family were expelled by Idi Armin. He
completed his studies and became an Affiliate
Member of the Institute of Chartered Management
Accountants. He became a partner in a small accountancy
practice and then he started a company called
Fast Finance which specialised in management consultancy,
business and corporate finance. This entailed
raising finance for growing companies and giving
them a sense of direction to make their business
successful.
For the past 14 years Dolar
has been the Chief Executive of a holding company
which has 4 subsidiaries companies employing 300
staff. Two companies specialise in Care Homes
with nursing for people with high dependency needs.
The other two companies specialise in the Hospitality
Industry. The group, which was rebranded last
year, is well established, dynamic and expanding.
Dolar has been very involved with several charities
and was a Trustee and Secretary for a local charitable
trust for 4 years. He was also a Director of fund
raising for the Grange Hospice, a local charity,
to develop a new home for the terminally ill.
New Life Peerages Announced
The previous Prime Minister
(the Rt Hon Gordon Brown MP) undertook a process
to recommend to the Queen new party-political
life peerages. This consisted of working peers
from each party and, as is customary at the end
of a Parliament, a dissolution list for former
MPs. The Queen has been graciously pleased to
signify Her intention of conferring Peerages of
the United Kingdom for Life upon the undermentioned:
