MOTIVATE LONDON FOR THE G8 June 2nd, 6.30 onwards TUC Congress House Great Russell Street London WC2

Several well-known Asians, like Radio1 DJ Bobby Friction, are lending their support to the 'Make Poverty History' campaign by getting involved in the 'Motivate London for the G8 event on June 2nd in London. The first event of its kind, it will kick-off similar events around the country aimed at mobilising people to attend the G8 summit at Gleneagles this July where leaders of the worlds richest countries will meet.

Radio 1 DJ Bobby Friction will headline the 'Motivate London for the G8' event along with classical musicians from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (Institute of Indian Art and Culture), bringing their sounds to a night that will also be jam-packed with speakers, performance artists and Make Poverty History campaigners ready to answer questions about the G8 - how to get there, who will be there, what will happen on the day.

Tony Blair will have the chance to make 2005 a crucial year in the fight against poverty, but public support for making poverty history is vital. G8 is the chance to help have your voice heard and put poverty at the top of the political agenda. Danisha Kazi who works for Oxfam Campaigns London and SE has been a key event organiser and used her connections at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (Institute of Indian Art and Culture) where she is doing her diploma in Bharata Natyam, to help mobilise South Asian communities across London.

The Make Poverty History campaign is supported by over 400 organisations, including charities, campaigns, trades unions, faith groups and celebrities. It gained momentum in February when Nelson Mandela spoke to 22,000 people in Trafalgar Square, challenging them to put pressure on world leaders at this year's G8 summit, to eradicate "man-made" poverty.
