DEM ELECTION PLEDGES FOR ETHNIC MINORITIES

The
Liberal Democrat Party has today launched its minority ethnic and
minority faith pledge card to be published once the general election
is called. Entitled 'Ten Good Reasons for All Britain's Communities
to vote Liberal Democrat', the card lists the parties views on major
issues concerning ethnic communities. Among the pledges are a plan
to ban compulsory ID Cards, issuing realistic levels of work permits
for foreigners, scrapping tuition fees and banning Islamaphobia.

oppose: reducing free speech and religious freedom

propose: an end to discrimination, giving people of all faiths
equal rights under a new Equality Act

propose: realistic numbers of work permits for foreigners based
on Britain's economic needs

oppose: preventing asylum seekers from applying to stay here

propose: decisions on asylum to be taken by an independent body

oppose: tuition fees and top up fees

propose: scrapping tuition fees to maximise access to higher education

oppose: delay in the Middle East peace process

propose: a two state solution with security for Israel, and justice
and a homeland for Palestine

oppose: Bush and Blair on Iraq, in breach of international law.
