O.B.E FOR SHERE KHAN CEO, NIGHAT AWAN

Nighat Awan, chief exceutive of the Shere Khan Group, has been awarded the O.B.E. (Order of the British Empire) for services to export and to charity. She undertakes charitable activities for a variety of organizations, including The Prince's Trust, Business in the Community and Cancer Bacup as well as community initiatives like the Pakistan Human Development Fund and the Lloyds TSB Asian Jewel Awards.

Nighat was born in Manchester but spent several years of her childhood in Pakistan, which she acknowledges as a profound influence on her personality and ethos. Managing her own garment factory from the age of 18, Nighat went on into fashion retail and the floristry business before entering the restaurant trade with her now-famous Shere Khan restaurants.

Shere Khan is now a thriving international business, and the brand has also gone into food services and the export business with an innovative range of curry products as well as the Shere Khan Express chain of eateries. Nighat, as the public face of Shere Khan, is a much sought-after public speaker as well as a media favourite.

Nighat lives and works in Cheshire and continues to visit Pakistan on a regular basis.
