Office appoints New Race Equality Adviser

The
Home Office today announced that Mark Carroll will be appointed
as its new Race Equality Adviser. This will follow the retirement
of Trevor Hall CBE, the current adviser, on 8th April. The appointment
was made through open competition.
Mr
Carroll, a Public Administration graduate, is currently Director
and Consultant with Astar Management Consultants, a leading human
resources consultancy. He has a significant background of work in
developing black and ethnic minority organisations as well as providing
consultancy advice at the most senior levels on diversity and race
equality.
In
1990 he established the community organisation, Nottingham Black
Initiative. He created the first East Midlands support and training
scheme for Black people in Prison, and established the first training
scheme for unemployed adults in the Asian and African-Caribbean
communities to secure jobs in the social work and community work
field.
He
will be responsible for advising on the promotion, implementation
and monitoring of race equality in Home Office policy and programmes.
His role will earn him more than £50,000 per annum.

and promoting race equality in the UK. I am pleased to welcome Mark
as part of the team. I believe his impressive track record will
prove invaluable in helping us achieve race equality across the
public sector in Britain."
