'Kaun Banega Crorepati', the Indian equivalent of hit show 'Who wants to be a Millionaire', is set to launch in the UK on 29th October 2001 on Star Plus.

Hosted by Amitabh Bachchan, often billed as the most successful Bollywood Star of all time, the show retains its familiar format of putting contestants to the test with 15 questions. Answering all questions correctly scoops the winner a 1 Crore jackpot.

This new show is a bid by Star Plus, the digital channel owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation, to extend its services in the UK market. The channel plans to also increase distribution in conjunction with cable provider, Telewest Active Digital Services, who will broadcast both the Star Plus & Star News channels.

'Kaun Banega Crorepati' is just one of the new line-up of programmes for Autumn 2001. The channel will also broadcast three of India's top-rated dramas: 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Tai', 'Shagun', 'Kangam'. Lisa Srao, Vice President of UK operations said "Kaun Banega Crorepati is the jewel in our programming crown and we are delighted to be able to bring it to our UK audience".

UK Viewers can enjoy a free trial of Star's channels between 19th October and 3rd December 2001 after which time charges revert to £9.99 (for one channel) and £12.99 for both Star plus and Star News.
