A Bollywood
film brought to life on stage! Following the show's huge success
at the Edinburgh Festival, a company of eleven in flamboyant costumes
sing and dance their way through improbable plot (for which Bollywood
is loved) to a happy ending.
Written
and sung in contemporary English, the show draws a portrait of the
city of Mumbai following the lives of a Hindu girl in love with
a Muslim boy, a prostitute fighting for her rights and those of
her golden-hearted drunk paramour, a cop with a conscience, a fascist
jailor, a corrupt film producer and a born-again politician wanting
to make a difference.
An
affectionate and nostalgic take on the ever popular Bollywood 'Masala'
film with a pot pourri of spicy ingredients laced with scintillating
dance, foot-tapping music and larger-than-life characters.
Yeh
Hai Mumbai Meri Jaan is written by established playwright, Sohaila
Kapur (sister of Film Director Shekhar Kapur who also devised the
original idea for Bombay Dreams) and is directed by Sanjoy Roy (Teamwork
Films, India).
