The scorched desert landscape of Rajasthan is the setting for this
sumptuous new musical interpretation of Emily Brontë’s
classic tale of passion, jealousy and revenge - 'Wuthering Heights'
is the latest show from Tamasha – creator of dance spectacular
Strictly Dandia, award-winning musical Fourteen Songs, Two Weddings
and a Funeral and the groundbreaking East is East. 'Wuthering Heights'
tours from 13 March until 20 June 2009.
Shakuntala is the beautiful
and headstrong daughter of merchant Singh. Krishan is the wild street
urchin that Singh adopts. Thrown together as unlikely siblings,
their adolescent play soon turns into tumultuous passion. But can
their love withstand Indian society's taboos and hierarchies, not
to mention Shakuntala's yearning for the riches and status that
only Vijay can provide?
Influenced by Indian
cinema past and present – from brooding black-and-white epics
of the 1950s, to colourful contemporary blockbusters – it will
captivate theatregoers of all ages. Created by Tamasha, based on
the novel by Emily Brontë, the original concept and book was developed
by Deepak Verma. The production is directed by Kristine Landon-Smith
with music by Felix Cross & Sheema Mukherjee.
