Qualitative
research conducted during the closure period amongst
their core audience in West London indicated that
there was a huge demand for Asian Arts - one of
the fastest growing sectors in the UK - and that
Watermans was deemed a key player in the delivery
of Asian events.
Waterman's
geographic location is a strong influence on the
strategic development of it's Asian Arts focus
. Approximately 23% of the total population in
the London Borough of Hounslow (in which Watermans
is located), is Asian. The figure rises to 50%
within the 15-18 year old school population.
"It's
an exciting time for the development of Asian
Arts in the UK and Watermans is proud to be driving
it. Our artistic programme is designed to cater
to a wide cross-section of the local community
and we're delighted to be strengthening our commitment
to Asian audiences,' says Jan Lennox, director
