Nina Rajarani, winner of the Place Prize 2006, Europe's largest
choreographic competition, presents her company Srishti in 'Quiet,
Please!' which tours the UK from 1 February until 21 April 2007.
Her winning piece 'Quick!' which forms a part of this new production,
was described by the panel of judges as a "work of unstoppable
energy that places bharatanatyam firmly in the world of London
business. A dance work with something new to say about how the
world is today, it is a clear winner of The Place Prize 2006."
'Quiet,
Please!' is 60 minutes of pure indulgence: excellent live music,
vibrant visuals and the ultimate dance experience. 'Quiet, Please!'
combines energetic and entertaining dance choreographed by Nina
Rajarani with excellent live music composed and led by Y Yadavan.
Vibrant film is integrated with the choreography. The work weaves
a romantic love triangle set in India around the hurly burly of
the manic London business world that is driven by aggression and
competition.
Weaving
two choreographies into one, the performance starts off with a
projection of a beautiful but lonely female living in India in
a colourful mansion. In true cinematic style she is nurturing
a lamp symbolising her undying hope that her childhood sweetheart,
now in London, will return to her soon. Meanwhile on stage, an
energised display (Quick!) of four male Bharatanatyam London businessmen
unravels.
The
crux of Quick! is one of those crisp, official board meetings
(Quiet, Please!) where people are all talking very much to the
point, exchanging ideas in quick succession, sometimes in agreement
and sometimes not, sometimes talking over each other, sometimes
talking in turns and listening to each other.
This
section of the performance will reflect our daily life and our
impatience that inevitably hinders us. The events that influenced
the choreography are all the mundane things one would do on a
day-to-day basis where we all display so much impatience because
we are always in a rush, always racing against time.
Her
childhood sweetheart returns to India only to find that things
are not as he dreamt them to be. A love triangle evolves
