A highlight in October is, Party, the UK premiere from the Calcutta based, Neev Theatre Company. This 85 minute social satire examines the hypocrisies of India’s cultural and intellectual glitterati.

Set at an evening at a party thrown by leading socialite, Mrs. Indira Sinha to honour novelist, Dibakar Banerjee who has been widely praised for his recent work. The get-together begins cordially with social pleasantries but as the evening progresses the guests’ mask of sophistication falls away to reveal their true colours, exposing power plays, one-upmanship and nepotism amongst this elite crowd who fearful of losing what they have acquired in material and social terms.

Party is performed by a cast of eight actors and mixes straight narrative with live recitation of contemporary Indian poems and Hindustani classical music. Acute social commentary combines with insightful writing to produce an entertaining drama which will leave a strong impression long after the curtain has fallen.
