KHAYAAL THEATRE COMPANY PRESENTS
'TALES FROM MUSLIM LANDS'
29 January - 12 February 2005

Khayaal Theatre Company presents 'Tales from Muslim Lands'Set sail with the Khayaal Theatre Company who present 'Tales from Muslim Lands', a voyage of discovery of Islam where they share with you a rich, engaging and eclectic collection of four short stories dramatically interpreted for your entertainment. Featuring adaptations of both well and lesser known tales from W. Africa, China, Persia, and the Arab World, the plays explore iconic Muslim works and characters such as the 1001 Nights, Rumi's Masnavi and Gizo the spider.

Incey Witty Spider
In a famine-stricken land, a hungry spider shows how wit beats weight in the art of survival. The famed Gizo character of West African folklore takes on new dimensions in this hilarious and energetic adaptation.

Bling Bling Blind
A brassy fortune seeker's encounter with a dervish leads to dazzling and devastating results in this tragi-comic tale from the Arabian Nights.

Peony Garden on Nanshan Mountain
A beautiful girl, a fish that wants to fly, and a questing youth all find an answer in the secret of a Peony garden. Generosity and service find resonance in this exquisite rendition of a Hui tale from China.

Man Take Thy Flight
A heart-rending exchange between distant parrots inspires the meaning of true freedom in a merchant's fettered soul. Filigrees of light, song and symbolism fuse in this take on Rumi's metaphysical poem from the Masnavi.
