Miranda, a Bollywood wannabe, graces
a bar in Goa, hoping to snare the golden opportunity
of being discovered in "proper" English
theatre - "with real Shakespeare lines, yaar!"
Ferdie walks in. He is part of a British theatre
troupe performing The Tempest and is seeking a
suitable ‘Miranda’, the original actor having
packed off. Miranda is wooed by Ferdinand, but
the languid heat of Goa begins to offer surprising
twists to Shakespeare's story. As Miranda soon
discovers, the illusion of spirit and sorcery
is not only confined to the stage!
Miranda combines Indian and contemporary
dance, music and text to evoke a story of sex,
desire and revenge in Goa. Performed by an actor/dancer,
ANKUR BAHL (BBC’s Jump Nation, Rifco’s hit musical,
Britain’s Got Bhangra, and DV8’s Olivier-nominated
To Be Straight With You). Ankur Bahl is accompanied
by two live musicians, Danyal Dhondy & Swagat
Biswas.
Farrukh Dhondy, raconteur and boulevardier,
writes novels, articles, short stories, television
sitcoms, dramas and screenplays. His numerous
credits include: Tandoori Nights (TV series) King
of the Ghetto (4 –episode drama), and Come to
Mecca (six part series for BBC where one play,
‘Romance, Romance’ won Samuel Beckett Award for
‘Best Play’). His novels include East End at Your
Feet, Poona Company, Bombay Duck and The Bikini
Murders. He wrote the definitive biography of
