LAUNCH
OF DAWN -THE DYNAMIC ASIAN WOMEN'S NETWORK
(4 June 2003)
A much-awaited
network for ambitious Asian women was launched on the 4th of June
2003 at the Cinnamon Club in London. Parminder Vir, OBE, co-founder
of DAWN (the Dynamic Asian Women's Network), introduced co-founders
Manisha Dahad and Vimmi Singh and talked about the vision of DAWN.
She described DAWN as a unique, innovative and powerful proposition
to enable women to explore new careers and expand their horizons.
Guest speakers were Perween Warsi, CEO of S&A Foods and Punita
Gajree, partner at Accenture.
Perween
Warsi, award winning entrepreneur and founder of S&A Foods,
which is a £100m business, spoke at the event about her struggle,
from starting from her kitchen to getting her products to the supermarket;
and about her long term relationship with her customers built on
trust and honesty. She emphasised the importance of innovation as
the bedrock of success in business. She urged Asian women to be
confident about their capability, have faith in themselves, acknowledge
their achievements and approach opportunities with optimism.
Punita
Gajree, Partner at Accenture, wooed the audience with her light
heartedness and a sense of humour, which seems to have given her
the ability to stay calm through hardships and be ingenious in achieving
what is important to her. Her endurance shone right through the
12 years she has spent working several hours a day as a consultant
at Accenture and travelling around the world on her assignments.
The
audience consisted of women who clearly wanted to have it all. There
were women from leading Investment Banks, Consulting Firms, Median
Companies, Industry as well as entrepreneurs and free-lancers in
creative businesses.
