For
her new album 'Up!', Shania Twain took inspiration
from the Asian subcontinent to produce a
special CD entitled 'Blue Mixes' - an Asian
and Eastern influenced mix accompanying
the pop and country sound for which she
is best known. Produced
by leading Asian producers Simon and Diamond,
the 'Blue Mixes' take listeners on a fantastic
journey through Asian music, and show Shania's
amazing versatility and passion for World
Music.
The
story of the 'Blue Mixes' is as inspiring as the final product
Simon
and Diamond were initially invited to play as musicians to add Indian
influences to one track for Shania's forthcoming album, back in
May 2002. But once Shania and her producer-husband Mutt Lange heard
what these two immensely talented young artists were capable of,
they decided to go the whole hog and produce a completely separate
version of the album.
Having
spent some time with Shania and Mutt in Switzerland, Simon and Diamond
flew out to India to build a team of musicians that would bring
their vision to life. Working with the very best of India's talent,
the duo have created some ground breaking music that take Shania
Twain's melodious voice and lyrics to another level.
They
say of their work: "Being invited to work with Shania Twain
was one of the biggest compliments we could have received. She is
incredibly talented, and amazingly passionate about Asian music.
Our job was to work with her and Mutt to create a sound that shows
the versatility of her voice.
"Working
with the orchestra out in India was a great experience for us. They
are true masters of their instruments, and we hope that the orchestrations
and mixes that we have produced will put Indian music on the map
for a whole new audience."
Simon
and Diamond are no strangers to the world of mainstream music. Over
the past 13 years of their career they have worked with a host of
top selling artists, including Maxi Priest, Sly & Robbie and
Erasure. They started their illustrious careers in their home-town
of Birmingham, back in 1990, when they took an unknown reggae artist
called Apache Indian, to the top of the charts with a track called
'Boom Shak-a-Lak'! Since then they have gone from strength to strength
producing albums for both Asian and mainstream artists.
And
what does Shania Twain think of the final product?
"Mutt
and I have wanted to explore different styles of music for a long
time, and both of us felt that 'Up!' was the perfect album to take
to a new level. I love Indian music, and when Mutt and I met Simon
and Diamond we knew instinctively that they were the right guys
for the job. They have done the album, and every single track proud
and I am excited and delighted with the 'Blue Mixes'
I can't
wait to see what the public thinks!
The 'Blue Mixes' tracks are available as part of Shania Twain's
