On April 26th Outcaste, the UK's leading label for British Asian and world music, launches 'Beats, Rhymes & Life', a compilation combining classic US hip hop with a cosmopolitan collection of UK, European, African and Asian urban music, all mixed by Danish hip hop outfit Outlandish.

From the West Coast hip hop style of French rappers Alliance Ethnik's 'Respect' to Jazzy Jeff's trademark Philly-soul sensibilities on 'We Are', the continent-hopping make-up of the album reflects the multi-cultural heritage of Outlandish. The Copenhagen-based trio - Islam, Waqas and Lenny - have roots stretching to Morocco, Pakistan and the Honduras respectively. Friends since school, a lack of break dancing prowess lead them to explore other facets of hip hop culture and eventually pick up the microphone. The group's second album 'Bread & Barrels of Water' was released in the UK last year, spawning the hit single 'Guantanamo'.

The conspicuous absence of blingin' rhymes and gangster-isms from the band's music (themes explored on Outlandish's debut set include love, family, friendship and go) has also seen them embraced by a diverse audience.

Europe's rapidly expanding Asian scene is heavily represented on this album, with an exclusive remix of the band's next single 'Walou' by Rishi Rich. With Juggy D and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan nestling alongside Rich, the album showcases Asian music pioneers of the past, present and future.

'Beats, Rhymes & Life' is released on 26 April 2004.
