The 'United Through Heritage' Arts exhibition, which runs from 13 July until 29 September, was officially opened by Beverly Hughes MP and the Mayor of Trafford Bernard Sharp. The exhibition showcases the work of five artists including Muiz Al Khattat, Gulnar Banoo, Samsul Islam, and Sadia Khan who fuse western influences with the traditional, creating modern interpretations of calligraphy on ceramics and canvas, connecting them to their own individual heritage.

The exhibition includes a collection of prints by Manchester based photographer, Monir Ali which deal with themes of culture, identity, and heritage. The photographs were taken over a period of three years explore the way Asians Muslims define themselves based on their inherited culture, and how that reflects on the wider community. This is part of a works entitled "identity" which looks at ways migrant communities maintain and retain their cultural heritage in a cosmopolitan society.

The exhibitions curator and the arts and cultural development officer of Trafford, Robina Sheikh , says of the exhibition "United Through Heritage highlights the wealth of creative talent within the Asian communities, and I am pleased that with the support of the Waterside Arts Centre, and Rosie Scott, the deputy arts centre manger for waterside arts centre, we have been able to show case the work."
