The Mayor of London has invited all Asians of all ages to enter the RISE ‘Capture London's Diversity', Photo Competition 2005 which is open to amateur or professional photographers of all ages. Prizes include top of the range digital cameras, courtesy of Dixons and Fujifilm. The closing date for receipt of entries is 8 June 2005. Winning entries will be featured in a special exhibition at City Hall, at the rise festival at Burgess Park on 16 July, and on the web.


The Mayor said: "This is an excellent opportunity for all photographers to capture and celebrates their experiences of living on one of the most diverse cities in the world. Everyone from school children to professional photographers have equal chances of winning in the different categories. I encourage everyone to have their cameras nearby for the next few weeks and I wish everyone luck in capturing a great image'.

To enter the competition, photographers should submit a colour print or digital image of their own work that reflects or is inspired by the theme: Capture London’s Diversity.

COMPETITION RULES OF ENTRY

All entries should reflect the competition theme, Capture London’s Diversity, and must be received no later than Wednesday 8 June 2005.

Categories for entry are a) Under 18, b) 18 and over (non-professional) c) 18 and over (professional).

Entrants may submit one colour image only of their own work. Prints or digital images may be entered.

Prints entered should be a minimum 5” x 7” up to a maximum 8” x 10” in size.

Digital images may be submitted on CD or by email. Images should be saved as JPG, GIF or TIF files to a high resolution, as your camera will permit, but must not exceed 3MB.

Postal entries (prints and CDs) should be addressed to Photography Competition, Events for London, 4th Floor, City Hall, The Queen’s Walk, London SE1 2AA. Email entries should be forwarded to: photocompetition@london.gov.uk

Prints and CDs entered should be clearly labelled (on the reverse or cover) with your name, address, telephone number and email address, the category in which you are entering and a title for the picture. Email entrants should submit the same information as required for prints and CDs. All entrants may, if they wish, submit a covering letter or statement with a brief description of their picture (not more than 100 words), where it was taken and what it depicts.

All entries will be judged by a panel of judges nominated by the Greater London Authority (GLA). First, Second and Third prizes, plus 2 runner up prizes will be awarded in each category. The judges’ decisions will be final. Winning entrants will be notified by post no later than 20 June 2005. A list of winning entrants will be made available on the web after this date.

The GLA will not enter into any communication or correspondence regarding individual entries.

Prints or CDs will not be returned unless a stamped addressed envelope is provided with the entry. All other prints or CDs will be disposed of within 3 months of the closing date for the competition. All non-winning entries submitted by email will be deleted.

The GLA accepts no liability for loss or damage, however caused, to any entries, and no responsibility for incomplete or delayed entries.

The GLA reserves the right to reproduce, enlarge, publish or exhibit, mechanically or electronically the winning entries from the competition for use in regard to the Capture London’s Diversity photo competition 2005 and / or the rise festival 2005, including reporting on or reviewing the competition and inclusion in any related exhibition, PR or publicity campaign.

Winning entries may be reproduced, enlarged, published or exhibited mechanically or electronically by the competition sponsor/s and / or media partner/s as part of their own engagement with the Capture London’s Diversity photo competition 2005 and / or the rise festival 2005, including reporting on or reviewing the competition, and inclusion in any related exhibition, PR or publicity campaign.

In all cases photographers will be credited if their images are used. For any other proposed use either by the GLA, sponsor/s or media partner/s, entrant’s written permission will be requested.

Entries will not be permitted from employees of the GLA, its photographic contractors or sponsor/s or media partner/s.
