Born in Jaipur, India, Raghubir Singh (1942-1999) was a pioneer of colour photography, exploring the creative possibilities of the medium at a time when it was both unpopular and largely ignored.

Singh lived and worked in London, Paris and New York but made his best known work in his homeland. Over thirty years he strove to capture India and the infinite richness and variety of its people, places and customs.

In 1985 he was appointed the first Bradford Fellow in Photography. As well as presenting some of Singh’s finest work from India, this exhibition also includes a selection of his photographs taken in Bradford.
