Indian Artist, Kurchi Dasgupta from Calcutta will be showing a series of unique oil paintings on classic films from around the world, that are both evocative and surreal in nature. She covers a wide repertoire of films in her work including, Kurosawa’s Raan, Satyajit Ray’s Pather Panchali and works of Kubrick, Bergman, Tarkovsky, Ghatak, Truffaut and Woody Allen. Kurchi’s work aims in bringing the two disparate, yet similar, worlds of film and painting together and represent her visual dialogue with films that have had a profound influence on cultures from around the world .

ABOUT KURCHI DASGUPTA

An MA in Comparative Literature and a former CEO of the Society for the Preservation of Satyajit Ray Films, Kurchi Dasgupta (b. 1974, Calcutta, India) has also done brief publishing of books and CDs combining arts. She has done illustration too and written screenplays. She has done two novels into English from Bengali, among others, and has finally returned to painting.
