  WORLD CINEMA: A DIALOGUE BY KURCHI DASGUPTA, 18 - 24 SEP  
  Camellia by Kurchi DasguptaIndian Artist, Kurchi Dasgupta from Calcutta will be showing a series of unique oil paintings (18 - 24 September) on classic films from around the world, that are both evocative and surreal in nature. She covers a wide repertoire of films in her work including Satyajit Ray’s Pather Panchali and works of Kubrick, Bergman, Truffaut and Woody Allen. read more read more

The preconceptions of the Punjab are also as varied as the extraordinary mix of peoples who have made this region their home. LONDON MIX: LOOKING THROUGH THE EYES OF YOUNG LONDON  
  London MIx logoAs part of the UK 2012 Cultural Programme, Watermans and motiroti have joined forces to develop London Mix, a new participatory public art project for the Cultural Olympiad, to enable young people in West London to reflect on London's role as the Olympic host city in 2012.   SOUZA, MEHTA TOP CHRISTIE'S INDIAN MODERN ART SALE  
  Painting by Francis Newton Souza.Works of Francis Newton Souza and Tyeb Mehta were the highlights of the Christie's sale of contemporary Indian art here, which also included works from Tina Ambani's Mumbai-based Harmony Art Foundation. Souza's 1955 work "Birth" sold for £1,273,250 ($2.5 million) as against an estimate of £600,000-800,000 while Mehta's 1984 untitled (Figure on Rickshaw) went for £982,050 as against an estimate of £300,000-500,000 pounds. read more read more

  WORLD RECORD PRICE FOR A CHUGHTAI  
  Lady with a blue flower by Abdur Rahman Chugtai.Bonhams latest sale of Indian and Islamic Art made a total of £2,042,908. Abdur Rahman Chughtai's 'Guarded Beauty' fetched £66,000 against an estimate of £40,000 to £60,000 - a world record price for Chughtai. The sale was preceded by the auction of paintings contributed by Britain's Asian community that raised £36,400 for the Earthquake Appeal. read more read more  
     
  INDIAN PAINTINGS ACHIEVE RECORD PRICES AT AUCTION  
  'Nude Rain' by Francis Newton Souza, 1966. Oil on Canvas. A world record price - £145,600 - was achieved for Lot 328, The Tree, the Bird, the Shadow, by Jagdish Swaminathan (India 1928-1993) against a pre-auction estimate of £40,000 to £60,000 at the Bonhams Modern Indian, Pakistani and Arab paintings Sale last week. It is believed to be the second highest price achieved by a modern Indian artist. read more read more
