Some day in the Future (Mathu Yam Dawasa)
Directed by Dharmasena Pathiraja
With Saumya Liyanage, Wasantha Moragoda, Radha de Mel
Sri Lanka 2001, 116 mins

Scene from 'Some Day in the Future' directed by Dharmasena PathirajaDharmasena Pathiraja maintains on-the-edge tension in this rollercoaster ride of two small time hitmen on an out of control killing spree. The two hapless anti-heros Dhammika and Lionel have a half-baked dream of emigrating to the golden opportunities of Europe. Moving up from shopping mall muggings, they are hired by a politician to assassinate one of his cabinet colleagues. The hit takes place and the duo are put up at one of the politician's houses until things calm down. However, the boys grow anxious and make their escape, but their cover is blown and they become a target for the police and the politician who hired them. Pathiraja successfully injects a palpable threat of violence to the hitmen's various encounters - while at the same time gradually revealing that their experience is just part and parcel of a wider social unrest stalking Sri Lanka.
