'Slumdog Millionaire' wins 8 Oscars

Danny Boyle's 'Slumdog Millionaire', adapted for the screen by Simon Beaufoy from the bestselling novel Q and A by Vikas Swarup, swept the board at the 81st Academy Awards on 22 February 2009, winning eight Oscars. The film, which cost $15 million to make, has already grossed over $100 million at the US Box office. Boyle picked up the Oscar for Best director, Simon Beaufoy the Oscar for Best adapted screenplay with Chris Coulson and the entire cast accepting the award for Best picture. Celebrated musician A R Rahman won two Oscars: one for Best original score and Best song for 'Jai Ho', which he co-wrote with Gulzar. Resul Pookutty won the Oscar for Best Sound mixing and the film also won Best Cinematography and Best Film Editing Oscars.
