A PYRAMID OF WOMEN

The film tells the story of a group of Indian women who are challenging male domination over a religious custom. During the festival of Gokulashtami everyone in the city (Bombay) hangs decorated pots several stories high. Teams of men compete to reach and break the pots by forming human pyramids but for the first time women from a low income textile mill neighbourhood decide to challenge this male tradition.

Cheryl Kanekar was born in 1971. She is a graduate of the Television, Film and New Media programme, San Diego University, California. She has previously directed The Aliens, a documentary about undocumented migrant workers from Mexico.
