A bittersweet meditation on cultural legacies by director Safina Ubersol examining her mother's journey from Australia to India as well as her own experience as the daughter of a fair skinned 'foreigner' in India. These influences were brought to a head in nineteen eighty-four, a watershed in India's political and social history. There was an escalation of political turmoil in the state of Punjab where Sikh extremists were demanding a separate Sikh state. As Sikhs Safina's family were a potential target for the mobs and fled their home, returning a few days later forever changed. The story travels between India and Australia as it explores the heritage of a multicultural marriage, and both the personal and political forces that have shaped a family over the past 50 years
