22-year
old Muslim filmmaker Tariq Chowdhury was named joint runner up in
a recent film competition launched by the Tony Blair Faith Foundation.
The competition aims to provide young people with the opportunity
to express their faith through film" and the awards ceremony
took place at the British Academy of Film and Television on the 22nd
July 2010.

made by the Indian film legend Niranjan Pal (1889-1959) who was based
in UK between 1908 and 1929. One of the founders of Bombay Talkies
in 1934, Pal was a pioneer who contributed in the making of many significant
films.

Six
years after its theatrical release, controversial British Asian gangster
film 'Triads, Yardies and Onion Bhajees' will finally get released
on DVD on 20th April 2010. On its original release in 2004, Triads,
Yardies and Onion Bhajees was the first entirely shot on a camcorder
on a budget of less than £1000. The film is directed by Sarjit
Bains and stars Manish Patel as the hitman ‘Singh’ who
is on a mission to track down six million dollars stolen from London’s
Heathrow Airport.

star Jaya Bachchan was last night honoured with a Lifetime Achievement
Award at the ‘Tongues on Fire’ London Asian Film Festival
2010 at BAFTA, London. The star, who was visibly moved by the accolade,
thanked Dr Pushpinder Chowdhry, Founder of the festival and award
presenter Lady Kishwar Desai. 'Tongues
on Fire’ is celebrating the actress’ work through a special
‘Jaya Bachchan Retrospective’ from 5-14 March 2010 in
London.

his Oscar-winning success with a collaboration with director Gautham

Johnson backs plans for new film centre and pledges £5m |
London
Mayor, Boris Johnson today announced £5m funding for the proposed
new BFI National Film Centre in the capital. The London Development
Agency (LDA) has already invested £900,000 in this project by
supporting the BFI's business case and feasibility study for their
new film centre. The LDA will be investing a further £5million
over the next four years to match the investment made by the Department
of Culture Media and Sport.
