After
the success of Jhankaar Beats, here comes another hilarious comedy
by director Anant Balani in Eros International's 'Mumbai Matinee.'
The late Anant Balani, who recently passed away in August after
a cardiac arrest, was one of India's young and upcoming filmmakers.
Balani
made his directorial debut in 1989 in the Film 'Gawahi' starring
Shekar Kapur and Zeenat Aman. He followed this up with 'Pathar
Ke Phool' in 1991 starring Salman Khan and Raveena Tandon who
debuted in the film.
Mumbai
Matinee stars Rahul Bose, Vijay Raaz, Anusha Dhandekar and former
soap actress Perizaad Zoribian, who starred in Bollywood Calling.
The film is a far cry from the typical masala films that are usually
turned out by Bollywood, and it is great to see India finally
touching on a subject that is no longer taboo.
SYNOPSIS
Debashish
- Debu Chatterjee - is 32, employed in an advertising agency,
upwardly mobile but beset with a strange problem. He is still
a virgin. He needs to find a cure to his problem. Fast. Hope comes
in the form a gentleman who calls himself 'Baba Hindustani', who
promises to "cure" him. Ecstatic, Debu pays a visit
to Hotel Piccadilly where the Baba operates, where he meets Nitin
Kapoor, a small time filmmaker. An affable sort of fellow, Kapoor
and Debu get along instantly.
The
Baba gives Debu a bottle of coloured pills, telling him his problem
will be over in a week's time. But it isn't. In the meantime,
Kapoor has unwillingly asked the Baba to bail him out of a career
crisis. On the Baba's advice, Kapoor films Debu doing some physical
exercises and then uses the footage in his film as a man performing
enthusiastic sexual intercourse. Kapoor's film becomes a huge
success while the still virginal Debu suddenly becomes a 'Sex
Star'!
This
film has English subtitles.
The
film releases on the 26 September 2003 in selected cinemas nationwide.
