KASHMIR KI KALI (1964)
Directed by : Shakti Samanta
Music: O.P. Nayyar
Lyrics: S.H. Bihari
Cast: Shammi Kapoor, Sharmila Tagore, Pran, Anup Kumar, Dhumal, Nazir Hussan, Tuntun.

In the 1960s, Hindi movies were often set in lush locations like Kashmir and starred the popular rock 'n' roll hero of the decade, Shammi Kapoor, from the famous Kapoor dynasty. His 1960's films were light comedies with great music, lovely settings and a carefree atmosphere. Invariably the highlight of the movie would be the introduction of a beautiful young actress who in turn became a big star.

Kashmir Ki Kali (The Flower of Kashmir), made by Bengali director Shakti Samanta, is the movie that introduced the beautiful Bengali actress Sharmila Tagore to Hindi cinema, following her work in Satyajit Ray's Apur Sansar.

The film has a run-of-the-mill plot in which a rich boy meets a poor flower girl and to spice up the predictable, many revelations are thrown in about who is related to whom. The film has a touching air of innocence, and most importantly, songs that are now considered the great classics of Hindi film music.
