International is pleased to announce the release of I - Proud to
be an Indian, a powerful, hard-hitting and racially charged drama
produced by and starring the multi-talented Sohail Khan. He has
directed and produced a number of hits including 'Pyar Kiya To Darna
Kya' and 'Hello Brother', after making his directorial debut with
'Auzaar' at the young age of 20. Meanwhile, his acting career began
with 'Maine Dil Tujhko Diya' and this new release is the first under
the banner of his newly formed company, Sohail Khan Productions.
'I - Proud to be Indian' is directed by the London based Puneet
Sira and differs from the majority of Bollywood movies by being
set mainly in London, by being predominantly in English and by featuring
several English actors.
In
the film, Sohail Khan plays the unnamed I, who is forced to migrate
to his brother's home in London with his father (Kulbhushan Karbhanda)
and lands right in the middle of a race war, with the local Asian
community being terrorised by a gang of Neo Nazi skinheads, led
by Cain (6ft 4 inch British actor Tim Lawrence). The fact that
I has the courage to stand up to the abuse causes the situation
to intensify, and only the intervention of the police, and one
officer in particular, eases the situation. However, Cain attempts
to exploit the often tempestuous Indian - Pakistani relationship
by using a local Pakistani boy Aslam (Imran Ali Khan) as a hired
hand. However both I and Aslam recognise their true enemy lies
elsewhere and a friendship flourishes until a tragic event forces
I to confront reality head on. As such, I faces an all or nothing
fight - win and the Asian community is left in peace, lose and
they will be forced to flee once more.
The
film also stars Heena Tasleem as Noor, Aslam's sister and I's
love interest and is released in the UK on February 13th 2004.
