Farhan Akhtar's first film is a sexy, slick and delightfully funny film that follows the fortunes of three close friends: Akash (played by the celebrated actor and producer of 'Lagaan', Aamir Khan), Siddharth (Akshaye Khanna) and Sameer (Saif Ali Khan), who live a carefree and indulgent upper-middle class life in Bombay. Though they have much in common, the three young men have very different views on love and life.

Dil Chahta Hai (loosely translated as 'Do Your Thing') is highly original in the way it both celebrates and satirises the conventions of Hindi cinema. Director Farhan Akhtar knows how to involve the viewer with his natural dialogue and true-to-life characters and fine performances by the three lead men, a witty script and excellent modern music make this one of the most unusual and fun films of recent Bollywood.

Much like the heroes in his film, young, brash and talented, director Farhan Akhtar is familiar to the Bollywood world as the son of famous film writer and lyricist Javed Akhtar (co-writer of Sholay, the all time Bollywood favourite), and his first wife, Honey Irani (a screenplay writer who has also just made her first feature).
