arts traditions with a modern twist.
The
one-night extravaganza on follows the course of the river Indus,
the historical, cultural and economic backbone of Pakistan. As the
river weaves its way through the country, the audience will be taken
through its cultural landscape, from the Himalayas and the site
of the ancient Moghul kings and the rich diversity of Lahore to
the cosmopolitan sea-port of Karachi.
Renowned
folk singer Abida Parveen, described by the BBC as 'the owner of
one of the most remarkable voices on the planet' will be on stage
for the only time in the UK this year. World-famous dancer Nahid
Saddiqui, will be opening the show with the acclaimed kathak dance,
which gave its gracious moves to the flamenco.
Meanwhile,
'one of the biggest bands in the world' and 'Asia's answer to Santana'
- Junoon - will be playing global hits in their own inimitable Urdu
mixed with Western rock style. And
pop giants, Strings, who recorded Pakistan's last Cricket World
Cup song, will also be adding to the evening's excitement.
Other
noted artists include Bhangra king Abrar, who'll be performing his
massive Punjabi/ House fusion hits, and Papoo Saaeein, Pakistan's
foremost folk drummer, whose rhythmic beats are becoming legendary.
As well as a stunning musical line-up, Rhythms of the Indus will
also feature diverse fashion designs from world-famous Rizwan Beyg
and Nilofer Shahid, former designers to the late Diana, Princess
of Wales.
