In India Inc, Vikas Pota shortlists 10 Indian high achievers who cover every aspect of India's growing prowess and highlights what these people have done to make it big. Besides a keen focus on information technology, others profiled work in fields as diverse as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, banking, manufacturing, entertainment and green energy.

A fascinating insight into the minds of movers and shakers behind the success of huge corporations, including Narayana Murthy, Chairman of Infosys, K V Kamath, Chairman of ICICI Bank and role model Kiran Mazumdar Shaw who broke through the male-dominated Indian business world to become Chairwoman of Biocon India, Asia's largest biotechnology company.

The book, that took two and half years to write, came about when Tata took over British steelmaker Corus. Overnight, Pota's consultancy started receiving media calls about Tata and surprisingly Pota found himself an "expert" the subject, able to tell journalists about the hundred old company whose founder is buried in Surrey. That experience started him pondering about the other companies he represented, like ICICI bank whose savings rates had consistently been well regarded in the financial industry.

"I looked at all the Indian companies that I knew and compiled a wish list of those that I wanted to write about," explains Pota, "but I wanted to write about the founders who were like role models to me, inspiring me". So he wrote to his wish list and within a few weeks ten major founders had responded favourably and the idea took shape. In a process that process that Pota describes as a "mini MBA", the research, interviewing, writing and editing quickly became all consuming.

And then the financial turmoil hit the world. "I had to look at who I was writing about and found to my astonishment that most of the companies I was profiling were little effected". Indeed, Pota claims that many of these Indian companies will become the "superbrands" of the future. "Take TCS (Tata Consulting Services), for example, when Mr Ramadorai took over in the mid 1990s the company had 5000 employees. Today it has over 100,000. It is easy to see that TCS is a major player in its field in the global market."

"The emergence of India as a future superpower has been the talk of countless summits and seminars in recent years as global giants and business leaders rush to get up to speed with the fastest-growing economy in the world." adds Pota. "This book is your guide to understanding who the next wave of movers & shakers in global business are."
