Industry association celebrates its 50th anniversary |
The
Bangladesh Caterers Association, the
UKs only pressure group for the nations
burgeoning curry industry, is this year celebrating
the fiftieth anniversary of its formation
and the 200th year since the first ever curry
restaurant was established. On Thursday 1st
July 2010, the BCA celebrated the launch of
a six-month long program of activities.

As
Britain prepares to celebrate the 200th anniversary
of the curry house, Cobra beer has identifed
that the surprise 'Curry Capital of the UK'
is Bromley, Kent. Veeraswamy, established
in 1926, is the oldest surviving Indian restaurant
in the U.K. Family directors of Masala World;
Ranjit Mathrani, Namita Panjab (pictured,
left) and Camellia Panjabi, have transformed
the restaurant to the reflect the glamour
and glory it exuded in the 1920s.

Curry Awards 2010 Winners |
The
winners of the Scottish Curry Awards 2010
were announced on 15th June 2010 in Glasgow.
Well over 5000 nominations were received from
from all over Scotland and over 600 people
attended the award ceremony including Miss
Earth Sarah Finlay. The Curry King of 2010
Award presented by Shabir Hussian of Akbar's
went to Dr. Wali Uddin (pictured left).

star Shilpa Shetty opens Bombay Bicycle Restaurant
in Chelsea |
Bollywood
star Shilpa Shetty, Co-Chairperson and Brand
Ambassador of the V8 Gourmet Group, officially
launched the Bombay Bicycle restaurant in
Chelsea on Wednesday 24th February. Formerly
the site of V8 Gourmet’s Vama restaurant,
the new Bombay Bicycle is one of four Bombay
Bicycle London restaurants known for offering
authentic, home-style Indian cooking in contemporary
surroundings.

wins Gordon Ramsay's 'F Word' contest |
Lasan
restaurant of Birmingham won Gordon Ramsay's
'F-Word' contest on Channel 4 last night (Thursday,
7th January 2010). The Indian diner, based
in the city's Jewellery Quarter, beat off
competition from 10,000 restaurants to be
crowned Britain's Best Local Restaurant after
a nail-biting final between Lasan and The
Pheasant gastro pub.

It
is almost a crime to describe this group of
London's top ten curry experts as "curry
chefs"! Pioneers of Indian cuisine, they
are leaders in innovation, authentic textures
and flavours, artistic presentation, culinary
performance and are all round masters of the
art of cooking. I had considered calling them
Britain's Top Ten Best Curry Chefs, but the
eagle-eyed among you will have noticed that
they are all based in London, the global capital
for Indian cuisine.
