Treon's V8 Gourmet acquires troubled Tiffinbites

Gourmet Ltd, has acquired the troubled Tiffinbites
Restaurant group comprising The Bombay Bicycle
Club, Vama and Tiffinbites businesses. Anoup Treon,
Chairman of V8 Gourmet, has confirmed that the
businesses will continue all their existing operations.
V8 Gourmet has offered employment to Arjun Varma
and Andy Varma (founders of Vama). Tiffinbite's
CEO and founder Jamal Hirani is reported to be
quitting the empire that he helped to set up (Evening
Standard, 19 January 2009).

Gourmet will look to exploit these well established
brands by pursuing expansion opportunities in the
UK and overseas. Despite the downturn in the economy,
management expects performance of the businesses
to be satisfactory. The Gourmet Restaurant Group,
owners of the Tiffinbites fast food brand, had become
the largest Indian restaurant group in Britain after
acquiring the Bombay Bicycle Club and Vama businesses
in July 2008. However, the Tiffinbites chain, which
was inspired by the dabbawalas of Mumbai, catered
to office-going clients in the City of London, with
takings reportedly badly hit by the downturn.
