REDHOTCURRY.COM - A CELEBRATION OF ASIAN LIFE IN THE UK

Issue 3, Friday 18th January 2002

Greetings & A Happy New Year Curry Lovers!
Given that you've probably broken all your New Year Resolutions by now, we thought we'd take the opportunity to talk about our favourite subject....curry!

It seems that the British love of curry continues unabated. Research shows that one in four people now eat curry once a week and half a million eat Indian Food every day*. This left us pondering.....if there are nearly 2 million Asians in the UK, but only half a million are eating curry every day, what on earth are the rest of you doing? Dieting? So, to help you cook AND keep down the calories, our featured recipe is a simply delicious fish starter. Our featured product is low-fat, tasty Spiced Tea!

Fish Starter Spiced Tea

Cookery books, it seems, are like buses - there are never any around when you need one and then three come along at once. Well, in the case of Indian Cookery books, four! We've reviewed two of them for you.

Floyd's India Foolproof Indian Cookery
Floyd's IndiaI've hugely enjoyed Channel 5's new cookery program, 'Floyd's India'. More so, because the always slightly inebriated Keith Floyd has traversed India, eating all manner of "Delhi Belly" inducing dishes, often without a single slurp of his favourite alcoholic tipple! read more read more Foolproof Indian Cookery by Madhur Jaffrey Still smarting from my last Jaffrey recipe attempt, 'Chettinad Pepper Chicken', that took hours to prepare and was subsequently consigned to the bottom freezer compartment, I approached Madhur Jaffrey's new book 'Foolproof Indian Cookery' warily!   Entertainment Galore- well sort of!

Maybe it's just us, but the hectic social whirl of 2001 seems to have petered out with very little on this month. Mira Nair's excellent 'Monsoon Wedding' is showing in major cinemas throughout the UK as is blockbuster K3G (how cool is that?...at least I didn't have to spell out Kabhi Khushi whatever). Thankfully the ever-prolific South Asian Authors have kept us busy. Our latest read is Bali Rai's (Un)arranged Marriage.

Pick of the Week on Yahoo

Many thanks for all the feedback we've been getting - please keep it coming. It seems Yahoo loved us enough to make us their "Pick of the Week" this week (oh shucks guys.....we love ya!). Here's what they said....

"Picks of the Week: 14th January 2002
Yahoo LogoRedhotcurry.com (Found in Cultures and Groups > Asian)
We thought we'd start the New Year as we mean to go on here at Picks Central - with some red hot curry. This scorching site is in fact a celebration of Asian life and covers everything from entertainment to travel. Of course, the food and drink section is our favourite, especially the part entitled, "Help, I can't cook!" Rest assured, this site will tickle more than your tastebuds."

Until next time.
