Muslim girls develop 'apps' for smart phones
Three
teams of Muslim girls from the Central Foundation Girls School in
Tower Hamlets, London presented their ideas for mobile 'apps' development
to a panel of judges in a "Dragon's Den" style event organised
by 'Apps for Good' on 16th February 2011 in London. The judges determined
which ones would be scaled-up for commercial 'apps' development,
a prize worth between £3,000 - £5,000.

UK Government saves ayurvedic and herbal medicines
The
UK Government has announced that British herbal medicine practitioners
are to be statutorily regulated under the existing Health Professions
Council, a move that sidesteps an impending EU directive that looked
to set to ban traditional herbal and ayurvedic medicines from 30th

Sewa Day announced for Sunday 25th September 2011
Organisers
of Sewa Day announced that this year's event will take place on
Sunday 25th September 2011. This was among a raft of changes that
included the adoption of technology ensuring that most form-filling
will be done online and the ambition to reach 15,000 people, three
times more than the target achieved in 2010. read

Government opens up contracts
to small business
Measures
to open up the way that Government does business and to make sure
that small companies, charities and voluntary organisations can
compete for billions of pounds worth of contracts has been outlined
by the Prime Minister recently. 'The aspiration is that 25% of government
contracts should be awarded to small and medium-sized businesses.'

Big Society Bank raids dormant
accounts for funds
The
Big Society Bank will attract more investment from wealthy individuals,
charitable foundations and savers in social ISAs and pension funds.
It will ultimately be financed by and estimated £400million
from dormant bank accounts, accessing up to £100million in
its first year. read
