Latina' featuring Kuljit Bhamra, 15 &

 'Bhangra
Latina' is a new musical phenomenon combining
elements of Bhangra and Latin music, produced
and developed by Kuljit Bhamra. The project,
which has been devised over 6 months, has
explored how composers and musicians from
different traditions can work together to
create music, drawing on the genres of salsa
& bhangra.

In Spring 2009 Srishti is embarking on a ground-breaking
new South Asian dance show 'My Stamping Ground',
a small scale, male dominated show exploring
the topic of gangs through Bharatanatyam.
This new production will incorporate breathtaking
aerial work and film and is a fresh take on
a classic story - a torrid love affair amidst
feuding gangs but through innovative South
Asian dance and music.

the traditions and heritage of bhangra music,
the 'Soho Road to The Punjab' exhibition charts
its movements from Birmingham, where Punjabi
nostalgia first fused with Caribbean beats
and dance floor styles, throughout the UK
and eventually back to the Punjab in India.
Exhibition
runs from 19 January - 20 March 2009 in Bristol.

 Mudslide
is an artist’s book made of silk in which
Baljinder Bhopal, Bristol based artist, explores
Punjabi culture and tradition including woman’s
folk song and dance that lead to the formation
of bhangra. Using text, imagery and embroidery,
Baljinder looks at the concept of culture,
displacement and the struggle to hold families
together. Exhibition runs from 19 January
- 20 March 2009 in Bristol.
