| 'Cash
And Curry' Wins Indy Film Award |
British
feature film Cash and Curry has won the Special
Audience Award for Best Feature Film at the
Portobello Film Festival 2008 which is Europe's
biggest independent film festival. Made for
a modest £30,000, the film has attracted
star names as leading actors and the support
of actor Joseph Fiennes.

North East of England's Pakistan Cultural
Society (PCS) presents 'Kitaab: A platform
of multicultural writing' in its exciting
autumn and winter season. Saturday 18th October
sees an event featuring author Sathnam Sanghera
in conversation with Yasmin Hai and Sunday
19th October plays host to an event featuring
Roopa Farooki (Corner Shop) in conversation
with Roma Tearne.

| 'The
White Tiger' wins the 2008 Man Booker Prize
for Fiction |
Indian
author Aravind Adiga was named the winner
of the £50,000 Man Booker Prize for
Fiction 2008 for his novel 'The White Tiger'.
The novelist was presented the prize at an
awards ceremony at Guildhall, London. Adiga
becomes the fourth debut novelist, to win
the award in the forty year history of the
prize.

Tribute to the Masters: by Khetanchi, 21 October

Rajasthani
artist, Gopal Swami Khetanchi, graduated with
a Bachelor in Arts from Rajasthan University
and has been working as a freelance artist
for over the past 20 years. In this exhibition,
A tribute to the Masters, Khetanchi
paints and transforms figures from famous
old European masters, into an Indian persona,
changing various elements into an Indian social-cultural
context.

CIDER' BY TAMASHA THEATRE CO., 22 OCT - 15

Two
Pakistani girls run from their families, leaving
a community in crisis. Their bid for freedom
has led them to an Asian women's refuge in
a nearby town. But the girls soon ask themselves
how sweet freedom really is. Emteaz Hussain's
debut play is based, in part, on her own experiences
of running away as a teenager.
