In
Katherine Frank's biography of Indira Gandhi,
Sonia Gandhi is described as "docile, accommodating
and quietly affectionate". Frank states
that after marrying Rajiv Gandhi in 1969, Sonia
quickly took over the cooking and domestic management
of the Gandhi household, even buying her mother-in-law's
saris. Frank adds that "the one thing Sonia
did not share with Indira was politics".
Ironic
that three decades later, this doyenne of domesticity
and eschewer of politics should ranked one of
the most powerful women in the world by Forbes
magazine!
