EDITORIAL COMMENT

'Izzat' 'Is Not' anymore it seems. New proposed changes to the law on homicide in Britain mean that killings on the basis of sexual jealousy, infidelity and rage will be classified as murder and not as manslaughter on the basis of 'provocation'. This is good news for Asians.

For far too long, we have clung to out-of-date, or simply misguided ideals of 'Izzat' (honour) and even 'Zakat' (alms). The latest bombings in Ahmedabad, India, show a clear trail back to Asians in the UK, happily doling out alms to charities that then siphon off money to fund terrorism. Are we doing this unwittingly, or are we knowingly giving money without caring where it goes and how it is used?
