'Izzat'
'Is Not' anymore it seems. New proposed changes
to the law on homicide in Britain mean that
killings on the basis of sexual jealousy, infidelity
and rage will be classified as murder and not
as manslaughter on the basis of 'provocation'.
This is good news for Asians.
For
far too long, we have clung to out-of-date,
or simply misguided ideals of 'Izzat' (honour)
and even 'Zakat' (alms). The latest bombings
in Ahmedabad, India, show a clear trail back
to Asians in the UK, happily doling out alms
to charities that then siphon off money to fund
terrorism. Are we doing this unwittingly, or
are we knowingly giving money without caring
where it goes and how it is used?

New
Provocation Law for Battered Asian Wives
Reforms
to the law on homicide will make it much harder
for those who kill out of anger to avoid a murder
conviction by claiming that they were provoked.
Whilst the new changes mean men could not use
the provocation defence when killing in anger,
women who have suffered domestic violence are
more likely to be able to use this defence in
their favour.
